Buki

Find every book in a photo

A photo of someone's bookshelf, or the stack on their desk, can hold a dozen books you would like to read. Right-click it in Chrome and Buki names up to 20 books in that one picture, checks each one against OpenLibrary, and lets you keep the ones you want.

Ten catches free. One picture is one catch, however many books it holds.

How it works

  1. Find the photo. A shelf, a stack, a haul from the library: any picture on a web page.
  2. Right-click it and choose Save book to shelf. On X, press the Buki button under the post instead, and Buki reads the post's words on X too.
  3. Keep the ones you want. Buki lists every book it read in the picture, each checked against OpenLibrary, and you choose.

For photos already on your screen

  • Phone apps that read a bookshelf need the shelf in front of you and a camera pointed at it.
  • Buki works on the photo someone else took: in a post, on a blog, on a shop page.
  • Every book you keep lands on a shelf in your browser, with the page you found it on.

Questions people ask

Can an app find all the books in one photo?

Buki names up to 20 books in one picture you see in Chrome, and checks each title against OpenLibrary. For a shelf in front of you, a phone app that uses your camera fits better.

What if a title is too small to read?

It may be missed. Buki checks every title it reads against OpenLibrary rather than trusting it, and you can add any book by hand.

What counts as one catch?

One picture, however many books it holds. A photo of twenty books is one catch.

Where do the books go?

On a shelf in your browser: Reading now, Next, Someday and Finished, and shelves you name. No account, nothing synced.

Is it free?

Ten catches are free, and a catch is one picture, however many books it holds. Then $29 a year, or $4 a month, or free with your own Google AI Studio key.

Can I share the list?

Yes. Share a shelf as a picture or a list, or export a CSV for Goodreads or StoryGraph.
